FAQs
Who is Dig In Collective for?
Dig In Collective partners with schools, educators, families, local farmers, and community organizations that share a commitment to helping children learn through meaningful experiences.
Whether your goal is to increase student engagement, strengthen wellness initiatives, expand outdoor learning, or create stronger connections to your local community, we'd love to explore what's possible together.
What exactly do you do?
We provide schools with turnkey food literacy and garden-based education programs that support whole child development, developed through an Occupational Therapy lens.
Our programs transform students from passive consumers into active participants as they plant, grow, harvest, prepare, and enjoy fresh foods while developing critical thinking, collaboration, responsibility, and healthy habits.
What makes you different?
Dig In Collective is a standards-aligned educational program that combines food literacy, garden-based learning, nutrition education, and OT-informed sensory experiences to support whole-child development. Through hands-on participation in the seed-to-plate process, students build science knowledge, healthy habits, environmental awareness, self-regulation skills, and community connections. Our turnkey programs help schools advance wellness, SEL, and academic engagement goals while creating meaningful learning experiences that students remember long after they leave the classroom.
What does working with Dig In Collective look like?
Every partnership begins with a conversation.
Before making recommendations, we take time to understand your school's priorities, existing initiatives, and the needs of your students and educators. From there, we collaborate to develop experiences that align with your goals—whether that's supporting an existing garden, enriching classroom instruction, strengthening wellness initiatives, or launching a pilot program.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach because every school community is different.
Our experiences are intentionally designed to complement—not compete with—existing curriculum.
Depending on your school's goals, activities can support:
Science
Health and Physical Education
Environmental Literacy
Mathematics
English Language Arts
Social-Emotional Learning
Executive Functioning
Collaboration and Communication
We believe some of the most powerful learning happens when students make real-world connections across multiple subject areas.
How do your programs support New Jersey learning standards?
Do schools need an existing garden or greenhouse to work with Dig In Collective?
Not at all.
Some schools already have gardens that could be better integrated into classroom learning, while others are just beginning their journey. We'll meet your school where it is and explore opportunities that fit your space, resources, and vision.
Whether it's a single planter, an outdoor classroom, a greenhouse, or a future garden, meaningful learning can grow in many forms.
What’s included in your program?
The Dig In Curriculum is a multi-week and semester-long food literacy and garden education programs for K–8 schools.
It is composed of:
Curriculum Licensing
Ready-to-implement curriculum packages for schools, districts, and organizations.
Professional Development
Training for educators on food literacy, garden-based learning, and sensory-rich instruction.
Community Partnerships
Sponsorship opportunities, and collaborative initiatives that expand student access to meaningful food education.
How do we get started?
It all begins with a discovery conversation.
We'll schedule a brief meeting to learn about your school, your priorities, and the initiatives already in place. If it seems like there's a good fit, we'll work together to identify opportunities that align with your goals and discuss what a pilot partnership could look like.
No pressure. No one-size-fits-all solutions. Just a collaborative conversation about what's possible.
